
Lucca is proud of its celebrious citizen Giacomo Puccini, born in Lucca December 22, 1858 ... Puccini was one of"the greatest composer of Italian opera after Verdi". Turandot, La Bohème, Madame Butterfly, Tosca are some of his most famous operas.
Puccini's birth house is now a Museum dedicated to his life and work, the Puccini Museum
Lucca dedicates Puccini a permanent festival, with daily concerts at 7pm in the chursch of San Giovanni, from 31st March till 31st October. http://www.puccinielasualucca.com
The highlight for Puccini lovers is the festival which takes place every summer in July/August at his home at Lago Massacuccioli, where Puccini composed his main operas, among which Tosca (1900), Madama Butterfly (1904), La Fanciulla del West (1910), La Rondine (1917) and Il Trittico (1918).
This year between 14th July and 19th August festival goers will be able to enjoy Turandot, La Rondine, La Bohème, Tosca and Madame Butterfly.
